Get English - apostille

apostille: a legal certification that makes a document from one country valid in another.

An Apostille is a certificate that simplifies the authentication of public documents for international use. It's essentially a standardized certification that confirms the signature and seal on a document is genuine, allowing it to be recognized in other countries that are part of the Hague Convention. This eliminates the need for further legalization by embassies or consulates in many cases.

Here's a more detailed explanation:

Purpose:

An Apostille certifies the origin of a public document, verifying the signature, seal, or stamp of the official who issued or certified it.

International Recognition:

It's recognized by countries that are members of the Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalisation for Foreign Public Documents.

How it works:

The Apostille is a certificate (often a stamp or sticker) attached to the original document, confirming its authenticity.

Examples:

Documents that commonly require Apostilles include birth certificates, marriage certificates, academic diplomas, and powers of attorney.

Simplified Process:

The Apostille process streamlines the legalization of documents, making it easier to use them in foreign countries that are part of the Hague Convention.

Not an Attestation:

An Apostille is distinct from attestation, which is a broader term for verifying the authenticity of documents, and may be required for countries not part of the Hague Convention.
