Why South Korea’s Status on the World Stage Is So Remarkable.

1. South Korea is not a major power, nor has it ever invaded or colonized other countries for the purpose of exploitation. If anything, Korea itself has historically been the target of colonial exploitation. It was colonized and ruled by Japan, and before that, it maintained a tributary relationship with the Qing Dynasty.

2. South Korea has few natural resources, so unlike Saudi Arabia or Australia, it cannot make money by exporting oil or iron ore.

3. South Korea does not have a particularly advantageous geographic location, either. It lies in a relatively remote corner of Northeast Asia and, unlike Singapore, is not situated along one of the world’s major shipping routes. A country that was once subjected to colonial exploitation, has few natural resources, and lacks a strategically advantageous geographic location has nevertheless managed to become a developed country. 1. 한국은 열강이 아니며, 다른 나라를 침략하거나 식민 약탈한 적이 없다. 오히려 한국 자신이 식민 약탈의 대상이었다. 일본에 의해 식민 지배를 당했고, 그 이전에는 청나라와 조공 관계를 맺고 있었다.

2. 한국에는 천연자원이 없어서 사우디아라비아나 호주처럼 석유나 철광석을 팔아 돈을 벌 수 없다.

3. 한국은 유리한 지리적 위치도 없다. 한국은 동북아시아의 외진 구석에 위치해 있으며, 싱가포르처럼 세계 주요 항로에 있지 않다. 한때 식민 약탈을 당하고, 천연자원도 없으며, 유리한 지리적 위치도 없는 나라가 선진국이 되었다. 이 정도면 충분히 자랑스러워할만하지 않은가?
